Helicopters

Helicopters handle the Orlando trips where point-to-point matters more than speed across distance. Four to seven seats, a range of roughly 150 to 400 nautical miles, and the ability to land where a fixed-wing aircraft cannot. Resort transfers, short inter-island hops, offshore platform runs, and Keys destinations all come up regularly in the Orlando market.

Typical Aircraft

The Sikorsky S-76 is the corporate standard in the group: a seven-seat twin turbine with a pressurized, climate-controlled cabin that suits executive transfers. The Agusta 109 brings a narrower but refined cabin and solid speed. The Bell 407 is the most common light turbine in charter service, and the Bell Jet Ranger and Bell Long Ranger cover the four-to-six seat range at a lower operating cost. The Eurocopter family covers a range of sizes from light to medium depending on the specific model.

When Helicopters Fit the Orlando Trip

Resort transfers between Orlando-area properties and the coast, short runs to the Florida Keys, Bahamas island hops where a fixed-wing landing strip is not available, and offshore platform support in the Gulf of Mexico are the core use cases. Racetrack charters to Daytona International Speedway during Speedweeks, and corporate event transfers between venues, also come up in the Orlando market. For any destination a fixed-wing aircraft reaches comfortably, the turboprop and piston categories are worth comparing on cost.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Orlando Charter Patterns

The Central Florida tourism corridor between Orlando, the theme park resort belt, and the Space Coast is a natural helicopter territory. Offshore platform support and survey work in the Gulf follow seasonal operator schedules that affect availability. For Bahamas inter-island hops, weather and offshore airspace routing are factors we work through with the operator before quoting. The Keys work well for short runs from the Orlando area, though Key West International or Marathon are the fixed-wing alternatives for most passengers.
