Socata TBM 700

The Socata TBM 700 was the first of the fast single-engine turboprops and still does useful work out of Orlando. Five or six seats at 300 knots and 1,400 nautical miles, at a cost well below any twin.

Socata built the TBM 700 from 1990 as a pressurized single-engine turboprop with a Pratt and Whitney PT6A-64 engine, combining light-jet speed with piston-twin operating costs. Five to six seats, 300 knots and 1,400 nautical miles of range. Every Socata TBM 700 we arrange flies with an operator certificated under FAR Part 135, the FAA rules for on-demand, for-hire charter.

Why the Socata TBM 700 Fits Orlando

Three hundred knots from a single engine is the proposition. On an Orlando to Nassau, Orlando to Turks and Caicos, or Orlando to Atlanta leg, the TBM 700 keeps pace with a King Air 200 while burning considerably less, and that difference shows up directly in the quote. For a snowbird or resort client who flies the Bahamas route regularly across a winter season, the efficiency adds up.

Single-engine turbine charter carries its own conditions within FAR Part 135, and we confirm the operator holds the right authority for commercial passenger work on type before quoting, alongside the usual review of their safety and incident history and the pilots’ currency on the aircraft. The overwater question is the one that clients ask about most, and it is the right question: the operator’s authority and the route are what we verify first.

Five or six seats with modest baggage is the real limit. An Orlando family of five with a week of luggage for a Caribbean trip is a King Air conversation instead. For two to four passengers traveling light, the TBM 700 is one of the most cost-efficient aircraft on this site for the Florida and Bahamas regional pattern.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
