Remote airstrips and choosing the aircraft
Mining and survey sites are chosen for what is in the ground, so the airstrip nearest to the site may be short, unpaved or both. Turboprops are often the right choice for those strips, while a site with a longer paved runway nearby may allow a jet. Runway needs are calculated by the operator for that day’s conditions, and we confirm them with the operator.
For reference, Cancun is about 540 nautical miles from Orlando Executive and Denver is about 1,340. Your advisor will look at the field at the far end with you before anything is quoted, because the answer can change the aircraft, the routing and the cost.
Samples, instruments and field equipment
These trips rarely carry only people. Core samples, survey instruments, drilling parts and camp equipment often go too. Send us the weights and dimensions with the passenger list, and tell us if anything is classed as dangerous goods. That detail tells us which operators can take the trip, and some loads will need a cargo flight of their own.
Crew rotations and long programs
Field programs often run for months, with crews rotating in and out on a set pattern. If you send us the whole schedule at the start, we can plan the rotations together and quote them as a series. Sites outside the United States need landing permits and authorizations, which are generally applied for after a trip has been secured on the aircraft schedule, so book early for anything with a fixed start date on site. - FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)

Orlando-Specific Patterns We Plan Around
Most private trips to Orlando use Orlando Executive, about three miles east of downtown, while Orlando International takes the airliner-size aircraft that larger groups need. Kissimmee Gateway is the closest jet airport to Walt Disney World and Celebration, and Orlando Sanford International serves the north side. Orlando Executive, Orlando International and Sanford have US Customs for private flights; Kissimmee does not. The airspace over Walt Disney World is restricted, so a Disney trip lands at an Orlando airport and finishes by car. From June to September, afternoon thunderstorms build most days, and hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th.
