Why the Piper Aerostar 600 Fits Orlando
On the short Florida regional legs the Aerostar’s speed shows against a Baron or an Aztec. Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Key West, and the Bahamas are all inside a comfortable hour or less from KORL, and the aircraft gets there earlier than its piston-twin competitors without moving into turboprop money. For two or three passengers on a same-day Bahamas run, that equation is worth checking.
The cabin is narrower than a Baron’s and access is less convenient, which is the trade for the aerodynamics. Five seats is a genuine five, but luggage needs planning on a trip with real bags. A Baron G58 or a Piper Navajo covers the same routes with more practical loading.
The FAR Part 135 fleet of Aerostar 600s is small, so short-notice availability in Central Florida is less reliable than a Baron. When one is not available, a Baron 58 covers the same Orlando regional and Bahamas routes without the wait.
